The Chosen

Has anyone else watched The Chosen? I have watched it all and am eagerly awaiting the final season!

There’s something so powerful about seeing Jesus and the disciples brought to life in such a human, relatable way. I know some of the conversations and storylines are fictionalised, but it really helps you imagine the people and world around Jesus and makes the Gospel feel so much more alive.

One scene that really stayed with me was Mary Magdalene’s. Watching Jesus meet her in her brokenness and call her by name was incredibly moving. ❤️ There is something so beautiful about the way He looks at her — not with condemnation or disgust, but with love, compassion and complete acceptance.

It reminded me that Jesus doesn't look at us and see the worst thing we've ever done. He sees the person underneath it all. He knows our wounds, our shame and our struggles, and still says, come to Me.

I also love how the series shows Jesus choosing people who society might have overlooked or judged, and making them part of His closest circle. It really brings home just how radical His love and mercy are.

Some of the scenes have genuinely brought me to tears and made me want to pick up my Bible afterwards and read the actual Gospel passage.

Who else is watching The Chosen? ✝️
What has been your favourite scene or character so far? Has any particular moment changed the way you read a Gospel story?

I haven’t watched it yet-but you’ve made me want to!

ChristmasStars · 22/08/2026 17:45

I watched some of it when I was off sick and loved it. You have to kind of be careful not to take everything in it as gospel but it's lovely for making you see how real everything we read about was.

I should watch the rest!

The Chosen

Watch The Chosen - the first multi-season series about the life of Jesus.

This from google:-

"You can watch The Chosen in the UK for free via The Chosen App (available on mobile devices and smart TVs) or stream it online through The Chosen Official Website. It is also available to watch on Prime Video and purchase on platforms like the Sky Store."

I downloaded the app and watched it through that. They released last season's episodes via cinema first and then through the app. I did go to the cinema to watch those! Very excited to watch the next and last season; although, given I know what's coming it will be bittersweet!

Ohhhh I do hope you all enjoy it as much as I did! I can't wait to hear your thoughts. I will say, I found the first episode to be the least enjoyable. But was so glad I persevered. If you aren't amazed after episode one PLEASE, PLEASE HANG ON IN THERE! It is worth it I promise!

When I was watching The Chosen it got me thinking about something that I find completely overwhelming to imagine — what an incredible privilege it must have been to be alive when Jesus walked the earth.

To actually lay eyes on Him. To hear His voice, to see Him walking amongst ordinary people, and perhaps even to meet Him and speak to Him. I know we will all meet our Maker one day, and that thought is incredible in itself, but I sometimes find myself imagining what it would have been like to meet Jesus in His earthly life. ❤️

Obviously at that time not everybody was aware or accepted that they were in the presence of the Son of God, but watching the series really brought that home to me — it makes Jesus feel so close, and I find myself thinking, "Imagine actually being there!"

Has anyone else ever had a thought like this?

Yes! That's exactly what I found so inspiring about the Chosen.

Thegreatestoftheseislove · Yesterday 11:48

I have just started to watch series 1 episode 1 and my 'pursue with caution' alarm went up at the scene with Nicodemus with a female character called Lileth. If the producers are taking creative liberties so early in the series, I will be reaching for the popcorn and wondering what other unBiblical 'rabbit holes' people may be sent down. It concerned me sufficiently that I felt compelled to record my thoughts before watching further.

Ipsevenenabibas · Yesterday 12:47

I completely understand your caution, and I think it’s worth distinguishing between the Bible itself and a piece of drama inspired by it. The Chosen does take huge creative liberties, particularly by fleshing out characters and imagining conversations and circumstances that Scripture doesn't record. Lilith, for example, isn't presented in the Bible as a character who interacts with Nicodemus (the name is used for Mary Magdalene's former identity in the show), but that storyline is a creative interpretation.

For me, that doesn't necessarily undermine the series, as long as we remember that it isn't Scripture and don't treat everything portrayed as biblical fact.I do worry that people who haven't read the Bible or know it reasonably well and then watch The Chosen could easily come away thinking some of the fictional or dramatised storylines are actually biblical truth.

I absolutely understand that the series has to fill in gaps where Scripture doesn't give us much detail, and I'm not saying that makes it bad or that we shouldn't enjoy it. But there is a difference between something being a plausible fictionalisation and something actually being recorded in the Bible.

That's why I think it's worth watching it alongside reading the Gospels rather than allowing the series to become your source for what happened. Otherwise, it's very easy for the line between Scripture and creative storytelling to become blurred.

I do think the show will inspire people to read the Bible or go back to it which is a positive. I'd definitely say watch with discernment, but I wouldn't let the creative additions put you off too quickly. Some of the most moving moments in the series come from real Biblical stories. ❤️✝️

Thank you @Ipsevenenabibas and I get it. I guess I started watching in the naive belief it would be 'like for like'. I do understand maybe the need to have a little poetic licence in the production, and will continue watching through that lens. As you say, if it inspires a 'seeker' to go back to the Bible, that can only be a good thing.

LauritaEvita · Yesterday 14:26

What accents do the actors do in it?

Ipsevenenabibas · Yesterday 14:31

Some sort of generalised Middle Eastern type of accent, I think. With the noticeable exception of Nicodemus! The Roman soldiers had American accents!

Ahh was hoping it would avoid American accents as I would find that ill fitting and distracting.

The majority of the show is the Middle Eastern accent so don't be discouraged!

I've watched some of it, and thought it was excellent, but my husband (also a christian) really dislikes it, so it limits my viewing time.
