‘God help you because he hasn’t so far’

‘God help you because he hasn’t so far’ is something my DM said to me during a disagreement yesterday. I just need to vent about it really.

I can’t get over how horrible that is as something to say to someone. It feels so spiteful. We’ve had a really tough year with a very touch and go pregnancy and a few other fairly traumatic events in quick succession that have hit my children, mental health and finances hard. I still just can’t believe it came out of her mouth.

I don't know in what way your mother said it, but reading that as an outsider sounds more supportive of you than spiteful. As in May God help you as you have had so much bad luck up until now, it's about time he cut you some slack'.

In the context of a disagreement I can't see how it fits.

Oh no she shouted it at me as she was complaining about how messy my children’s drawers were.

Random....the comment doesn't make any sense. Sounds like one of those impulsive comments said without thinking. Ignore

@Crumpetring two questions: are you a disciple of Christ Jesus? Does your mother worship Christ Jesus as her Lord and Saviour?

People say hateful things - it's part of the nature of our fallen sinful world. It's not good when there is a falling out, but c'est la vie. If the 'sayer' truly has Jesus in their heart, they would be compelled to immediately be apologetic and repent. If the 'hearer' truly has Jesus in their heart, they are compelled to forgive.

How does your mother know what prayers you have offered and that have not been answered (yet)? What prayers has she offered that have not yet been answered? A Christian knows that the Lord answers our prayers according to His perfect Sovereign Will, but not necessarily within our timing, nor in a way we want.

I just need to vent about it really. Best place to vent is to the Lord in prayer. 💐

she shouted it at me as she was complaining about how messy my children’s drawers were. If the messiness of your children's drawers are upsetting your mother that much, it is within her power, I'm sure, to tidy them ... but not to have the expectation they will remain that way. 😂

Hugs 🫂 OP. I can understand how that was said in spite and understand how that would make you feel.
I know it can be hard but forgiveness is a gift. Try to let it go. It doesn't serve you to hold on to her comment.

Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as Christ has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Colossians 3:13.

I am Christian but she isn’t.

God has been with me through all
the terrible things. I’ve walked through the valley and we’re nearly out the other side.

@Crumpetring I am so glad you have felt the Lord's presence during your trials. May He continue to sustain you. 🙏

Your mum was being unnecessarily hurtful to you and mocking of God. That is very sad. Anger only breeds anger, so as a Christian, the best 'defence' against her poor attitude towards you is to counter it with love. Proverbs 15. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise dispenses knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good ...

Perhaps that's the thing to say to her. That in spite of the crappy time you've been having, God has been with you through it. There's nowhere in the bible where it says that Christians get a stress free, easy life. The difference is God is with us IN the stress and difficulties. But for someone who's not a Christian, it could look from the outside as 'Where's this God of yours now? Why's he letting these bad things happen to you?' or even 'The fact that these bad things are happening to you prove that God doesn't exist'..... But God's not 'transactional' or capricious like that, I don't think, randomly dishing out good things to some people and bad things to other people. Life happens. Good stuff happens, bad stuff happens. God is with us through it all - and maybe that's what she needs to hear.
