Hi don't know the area you are around, but Charismatic church's in the Catholic tradition have been in a revival in some parts of the world. They have prayer groups in the UK and Westminster to. Some places also have services. There is one called GodisAble and they are a Catholic charismatic Holy Spirit church run by Catholic priests.. I have never been, but may be would attend one day. https://www.godisableccrpg.org.uk/

One thing about some charismatic church's is that the service can be 3+ hours as the spirit directs...not all but some are and that is difficult for some people to go to so I pointed out to a shorter service such as above.

Baptist are very bible led and can also be quite charasmatic or at least modern in terms of service and worship.
I would try looking at local Baptist churches.

Erm... I had to Google that. I would say it's a mix. I have definitely been at Baptist churches which aren't cessationist but I have also been at ones which just avoid talking about it. But even those ij would say aren't cessationist, they just take a very serious view of the gifts of the spirits and believe that they are only apparent in a few people not everyone and that it takes dedication and a strong faith and relationship with God to develop them.

Not the ones I went to as a kid. I think it depends on where you are in the world. In the UK, I don't think many baptist churches are cessationist at all, and plenty are charismatic.

ChristmasStars · 28/08/2025 14:50

I've been in charismatic Bible believing churches for decades - there are so many really good ones around. I'd love to help you find somewhere if you wanted to message me where you are. I know that's a bit difficult on a forum though.

Yes, it depends very much where you are. In Northern Ireland Baptist churches are cessationist. I can’t speak about the rest of the UK.

As for the original question, in my experience it’s extremely difficult to find one.

Panamanian · 28/08/2025 19:07

Churches in the HTB (Holy Trinity Brompton) network would fit those criteria. You could look up Alpha and find a church near you that offers it.

FluffyWabbit · 29/08/2025 14:40

I was about to delete my account here because I find MN so extremely toxic to the point it hangs on to me even when I leave the site.

Then, I see something like this and have faith that Jesus Christ prevails despite society, like so many times in the bible, and faith is restored that even small acts can help in the strangest of places!

OP: they let you look for churches via your postcode, hope this helps and God bless.

ChristmasStars · 29/08/2025 15:01

@FluffyWabbit there are definitely some parts of MN it's worth avoiding. Some nice bits though.

FIEC churches aren't charismatic are they? Or have they changed?

@FluffyWabbit I hope you don't delete your account. I try and avoid the toxic stuff - and the bottom line is, it's merely a message board and just a microcosm of humans being human - and some being extra-brave (or rude) at times from the anonymity of their keyboard. I do not allow it head space, but enjoy the parts of it that are good and interesting company.

If the definition of charismatic is believing in baptism of the Holy Spirit or the gift of tongues, yes, there are charismatic churches within the FIEC.

Well, I know there is at least one because it's one I attend!

My church is Pentecostal leaning and a lot of Pentecostals attend but is, technically, non-denominational.

I wouldn't say charasmatic/Pentacostalism is the main part of the congregation but I haven't really explored it that in depth to be sure. I just know that the 'gifts' of the Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians (I think) and the gift OF the Holy Spirt in Acts etc are embraced as truths by this church which was confirmed via their sermon.

At that sermon, it was also mentioned that tongues, specifically, can be theologically controversial but they alluded, without directly stating, that they believed it to be a gift that remains for some.

Panamanian · 29/08/2025 17:39

Just asked DH (who is a minister) and he suggested looking for a New Frontiers church.

ChristmasStars · 29/08/2025 17:59

That's really interesting @FluffyWabbit I haven't had any contact with FIEC for a long time and the people I knew at the time didn't really believe in the gifts of the Spirit still happening. I suppose it varies from church to church within reason.

I think my definition of charismatic would be more than just believing in the baptism and gifts but experiencing them as part of a worship service. Interesting.

Don't delete your account. Some people are quick to attack women believing in pro life, marriage and all this but there are boards where one can find relevant info or have a good laugh, without mocking of course

GentleSheep · 30/08/2025 11:55

@FluffyWabbit echoing others here - please don't delete your account, I know MN is generally a tough crowd around matters of faith. Remember there are always those reading along silently and not posting, perhaps what we say will help the Holy Spirit to reach their ears. It's very hard on, say, a pro-abortion thread (and I do wince at some of the things that are said by non-believers) to speak up for the life of the unborn but I'm sure there are non-believers that also do not like abortion and if we can speak up, even if we get piled on, it still matters. And that goes for anything concerning Christ's gospel, which if you think about it, affects pretty much every subject there is!

If we want a revival or to bring others to Christ I'm afraid we have to get out there and speak about it on these boards. Not an easy task but it's the mission we are all tasked with.

FluffyWabbit · 30/08/2025 12:07

Thanks all for your comments and hope and reminders of the our mission in Christ. I know we don't have an easy path but I'm very glad to share the journey with you! God bless and have a wonderful weekend.

Did you manage to find anything near you yet @TheGoldoffEternal ?

TheGoldoffEternal · 01/09/2025 18:28

Hi, I was looking in the Independent evangelical churches. I realised I was baptised in one without knowing they are part of this organisation. They are cessacionist but I will keep looking. Haven't checked out New frontiers yet

I am not cessationist and my husband is Catholic, so will look for Catholic charismatic renewal also
