My name is Patrick. …” so begins the autobiographical Confessio - an account of the life and beliefs of Ireland’s best known saint (who wasn’t Irish) …

Here’s the rest of the beginning-
“…I am a sinner, a simple country person, and the least of all believers. I am looked down upon by many. My father was Calpornius. He was a deacon; his father was Potitus, a priest, who lived at Bannavem Taburniae. His home was near there, and that is where I was taken prisoner. I was about sixteen at the time….”

You can read the rest here, in the original Latin, in English, as Gaeilge and in other languages.

I was travelling yesterday, is it too late to wish a 'Happy St Patrick's Day'? Thank you for the interesting link.

How lovely would it be to hear the Confessio read by an Irish actor (even though Patrick was from Britain) maybe Liam Neeson or Pierce Brosnan?
