Bambinelli Sunday - blessing of Baby Jesus figures

Is anyone else's church doing this? Evidently it was started by Pope John Paul II as a way of bringing the focus of Christmas in the home back to the nativity. I hadn't heard of it before we got our 'new' parish priest last year, but I have put my Bambino (69 years old) into the pocket of my coat ready for this year's blessing.

I've never heard of this ( but I'm C of E not RC) but it sounds lovely. I'd definitely do it. Can my bambino have a blessing at a distance please?

DeanElderberry · 14/12/2024 17:53

Of course it can @FuzzyPuffling . Actually, if you google you'll probably find a link to Rome and you can join in the worldwide blessing. But I'll hold you in my mind while mine is being done. It of course depends on the right priest being on the roster this week!

Thank-you Deano. That's very special.

Bambino blessed, Puffers prayed for, other people on this board prayed for, denizens of a certain cyber-hostelry prayed for.

The blessing was a bit brisk because the priest had another later mass to get to and was a little worried about traffic because today's the day the farmers (or rather, the vintage vehicle collectors) decorate their tractors, forage harvesters, and whatever you're having yourself, with many many many fairy lights and drive them slowly through the streets for some obscure reason known only to God. If indeed to God. The last two times he celebrated Mass in our village he coincided with anniversaries and had 300+ people in the congregation - I think he was very relieved to see a more usual wet winter evening 70ish today. Still started running as soon as he was out the church gate.

Thanks Deano. My little wooden bambino is basking in the blessibg.
And laughing at the priest avoiding the tractor run. They are a pain to be stuck behind!

We do it in my parish but we forgot to announce it last week so we're saving it until next Sunday, along with the traditional blessing for pregnant women.

I love cribs, I have one in every room of the house, so I bring a bag full of bambinelli to be blessed. A bag of Jesuses!

I hadn't heard of this. How lovely. Enjoy your blessed bambinelli ❤️
