This heat and SIDS

I just wondered how people are keeping their rooms and babies cool in this heat?

Our bedroom just will not cool down, it stays at a constant 25 degrees C through the night despite every upstairs window being open

This is obviously far too hot for our 10week old DS according to the SIDS advice and it doesn't look like the weather is going to cool down any time soon.

How are others managing?

Hello Mommynookah. It is a worry when they are so little.

First thing I would say is to try and keep the room cool and dark during the day, so window open and curtains closed. if you have a blackout blind make sure that is down all day. if you can do this (or at least a couple of hours before bedtime) it will help to reduce the night heat.

make sure there is a fan in the room - but don't point it directly on baby. if possible turn it on a couple of hours before bed. Homebase have some quiet tower fans starting at £14. Beg/borrow one for tonight if you can.

Ensure that baby has 100% cotton sheets/bedding and nightwear. Vest and nappy will be all baby needs to wear.

Good luck and wishing you a cooler night x

DD come home from SCBU last year when the weather was similar and I panicked. The HV pointed out that babies in India and Africa survive the heat. It made me panic less. But I second all loveacup's advice.

keep window closed and curtains drawn when sun shines onto the windows. you can make the room darker by putting extra sheets over the curtain rail. only open windows in the evening or early in the morning.
baby only needs very little clothing to sleep. dd only sleeps in a nappy and sleepsuit at the moment.
