a few weeks ago ds3 got his thumb shut in a door. the nail popped out from under the skin, but at the hospital they tried to get it back in
i was aware it may come off, and now it is indeed hanging by one corner

my worry is that it doesn't seem like a new nail is growing
i thought that in order for a new one to grow the nail bed needed to be kept open, which it won't be if his old nail has fallen off??

can anyone reassure me about this? will he get a new nail? should i take him back to the hospita?l

It might just be taking its time to come through (it took a while for my small toenail to come back - not the same as a thumb nail obviously). I guess the only concern I would have is infection so keep it as clean as possible and if your DS is in obvious discomfort take him to GP or hospital. You could always phone the surgery and ask to talk to a doctor or nurse.

thanks. i've had to cut most of the nail off now as it was flapping about and he kept ripping plasters off.
it looks better than it did, but i can see no sign at all of a new nail appearing

hopeuflly it will just be taking its time tho like you say
