Anyone else's child suffer from intermittent 'spiking' stomach pains

On a couple of occasions now (most recently last night) dd (age 7) has suffered from stomach pains which she likens to sharp spikes. She told me that her stomach had gone hard and tight with spikes going from the bottom up to her chest. The pain is debilitating and consequently she didn't fall asleep until after 23.00 and had a restless night. She woke up feeling fine.

Same thing happened a couple of months ago, and also once at school (during PE) but to a lesser degree and shorter duration.

I will make an appointment with the doctor but guess it will be difficult to determine what is causing it (I did a quick goggle and couldn't come up with anything).

Anyones child(ren) suffered similarly and if so do you know what it is?

Thanks

Thanks Pixie - if it is that then I am relieved (i.e. that it is nothing sinister!)
