dd3 presented with another UTI today. high temp spikes, lathargic, etc etc. urine shows lycozites.

so went to a+e as hoping they would do something. but was sent to OOh for more antibiotics.

am shattered, tired, dont know what to do anymore.

i asked for bloods to be done in case we are missing anything esle. they said no. i asked if they would do anything apart from antibiotics. they said no. so went to out of hours. doc there loved dd3 name (dd3 has the same name as a tennis player)

dd4 has an ultrasound booked for the 9th. i cant bring it forward as they only do them on fridays and next week she is on a school trip. i know it sounds daft but she has missed 1 school trip already, and a brownies day trip due to her UTI's and i really want her to go to this one.

she is on a course of cephalexin.

pleas eexcuse spelling and typos cant be arsed to correct them.

have they sent off samples for sensitivity?

that would show which antibugs would work and which wouldn't.

is the ultrasound to look at her kidneys? that would show if they wre being affected by the UTIs.

misdee · 25/06/2010 22:37

they didnt send off todays. they have only sent off 2 samples. last time they got the right antibiotics from the test they did. so she had 3 weeks of no infections. the infections have been coming back soon after courses finishing.

ultrasound is to check her kidneys.

but she has been referred. but its still 2 weeks away

which going by everything, in 2 weeks she will be battling another infection.

when she was a baby she had a scan done then, as she has extra tags and lumps on her right ear and cheek. they should it could be linked to kidney problems. but that was all clear. so it cant be linked, well i hope it isnt linked.

She needs to be seen by a paediatric urologist. An ultrasound will look at the structure of her kidneys but she'll need a different test to make sure they are functioning and draining properly, it's called a micturating cystography. Go back to your GP and insist that she's referred. She still needs the ultrasound though.

Similar question to lunatic - can they put her on long term antibiotics prohylaxis to prevent further attacks until all investigations done?

cleverlyconcealed · 27/06/2010 14:58

misdee - you should ask for prophylactic anti-bs. usually Trimithoprim is prescribed whilst you wait for the tests.

Is she doing her own wiping after the loo? Front to back? Drinking plenty? You probably know all this

I'm sorry you're so worried.

Used to suffer from cystitis until mil suggested squash with a teaspoonful of bicarb in it. Worked wonders, antibiotics never worked and mist pot cit made me puke.
