front tooth extraction

Ds fell over today and smashed his top Right Front tooth.

The nerve was damaged so the hospital took his tooth out.

I am just now wondering whether I should have asked them to put something in to mark/keep the space for the bigger teeth to grow into.

Will the big teeth move around and come through wonky now?

I've just discovered something called a 'space maintainer' on American sites.

Has anyone any experience of this with their children.

Thanks x

This happened to my nephew when he was 3, fell and damaged the front tooth and had it taken out in hosp. No mention was made of needing to hold the space open then (I took him for the op, SIL is a wimp!), or by the dentist since, afaik. The gap looks the right size for a tooth and all his other teeth look normal (he's 7 now). He's starting to get some of his adult teeth now so I guess time will tell but so far everything looks fine, hth.
