Dd 9 has gained 1/2 stone in just under 2 months

DD alwayes been on the lighter side but suddenly her skinny friends are looking tiny. Clothes for her height are have alwayes looked like tents but suddenly she's fitting them. So measured her. Hasn't got any taller, so tried weighing her. I really was shocked that she had gained so much weight in such a short time.

She has started puberty so I would expect some weight gain but just over 1/2 stone in 7 weeks. That's just over 1lb a week weight gain. Just looked in her red book it's a jump of 1/12 centiles.

Should I be watching her diet more careful as she is a big eater but always has been.

Am slightly worried if dd carries on at this speed of weight gain she's going to get very chubby in a short space of time.

What centile was she on to start with?
Sounds like a growth spurt to me. I've never weighed any of my girls. I can see if they've grown just by looking at them. I'm not sure frequent weighing is helpful for anybody tbh. I certainly wouldn't limit her food assuming she eats a varied mixed diet.

I would be very very careful about giving her a complex tbh. I mean worrying about her getting chubby ffs??

Ok she was on the 50th centile (height is 91st centile) she's now between the 75th and 91st.

I don't normally weigh her except round her birthday just as a record for her red book. It was only out of curiosity I did today.

I don't plan to let dd worry, more that I needed to watch what I feed her ie: change full fat milk to semi skimmed cut down of sweet snacks.

Lexcat - your daughter is taller than 91% of over children - why would you expect her to continue to weigh less than 50% of them
^Don't change her milk or make a big thing of her diet. The rest of the world is lining up to give her issues about her weight as she grows. Eating disorders are a huge issue for our daughters. You need to be on her side here because she doesn't have a problem and she shouldn't be made to feel she has.

Doesnt sound like there's anything wrong, TBH. She's evening out her proportions. It's perfectly normal to have growth spurts through puberty, and gaining weight before a height growth spurt is also normal.

I wouldn't change anything about her diet, other than to make sure she has plenty of fresh food it it.

My sons have always been on the 91-98 centile for height and weight. The eldest always gets a bit chubby before he shoots up, just as I am beginning to worry that he might develop a problem, he grows and I have to buy him new everything. I think it's a pattern you can expect; as long as you eat healthily, I wouldn't worry.

Just make sure she eats proper food, not lots of sugary snacks etc. And keep up the exercise.

blimey - am I supposed to know how much DD weighs?

DDs is skinny as a rake one minute and rounded at others.
She is changing all the time and because she is phenomenally active and also growing it can be quite dramatic.

But she eats good food, few crappy snacks and does loads.

If I thought for a moment she was getting bigger I would just look at her snacking and go swimming with her more.
I would not even whisper the whole weight/chubby/ issue.I would never let DD get on a scales unless it was needed in a mediacl context tbh..
Girls get this shit soon enough.

Both my DS and DS chubbied up a bit around exactly that age. Both had been slim before but got quite plump at age 9. But it soon passed and they are both very slender teenagers now.

DD1 always goes 'out' before she goes 'up' IYSWIM. Maybe she's due for a growth spurt.

Thanks to the support, just to make it clear I don't have any plan to let dd worry about her weight as I am well aware she could do with the extra weight as she's always weight below her centiles for height. My concern was it seem a lot of weight in a short time.

I would say dd diets pretty good but we do have areas which are not so good but I've never worried as dd's active and always been on the skinny side.

How long till we get the growth spurt and do you think it will be sudden and a big spurt the same as the weight gain. Just thinking new clothes need to be put on hold. Plus do the the feet have a spurt too.

I stopped looking at that red book when DS (now 7) was about 3.....I know how tall he is but no idea how much he weighs!
