Hi ladies

DD2 is 9 weeks old and has just come out in chickenpox today (caught from DD1). At the minute she has a slight temp 37.4, my concern is if her temperature gets too high what can I do? I have tried her with Calpol twice and within less than a minute she projectile vomits. Just concerned if this happens during the night that i am not sure what to do to get her temperature down? Any advice would be gratefully received.

vest only or just nappy and tepid sponge (not cold) will help bring a temperature down. Tepid bath and water over the head works too but if temperature is very high this can be very distressing for your dd. Lots of fluids - cool boiled water.

You can buy gel pads that are supposed to help but ds (ASD) will not tollerate them.

Hope your dd is soon feeling better. If you get worried call NHS direct or your GP for advice.

Ask your GP if he can supply paracetamol suppositories.
At a push your GP may prescribe ibuprofen if your DD2 is chunky. It can be weight calculated.( 5mg per Kg )
tbh I would be very careful re tepid sponging, it is not recommended nowadays. Although very effective in bringing temp down you can get a rebound effect and the temp shoots up. It is rapid rises in temperature that causes febrile convulsions.
Poor DD2 chickenpox is horrid especially in one so young

Can you speak to pharmacist about alternative solutions for paracetamol as have heard others say that calpol version makes them sick .

Thanks for the replies, will try the chemist tomorrow, just hope she doesn't get a temperature tonight.
