I have a 4.5 and 1 yr old but they have never been sick!!

DD2 was really sick in the night, had to bath her at 6 this morning, then she went back to bed and I've just got her up and she's been sick again.

Just want to ask whats best to give just plain water or weak formula or normal milk feed?

It sounds like she has a stomach bug.

Sips of water if she can keep them down. Absolutely no milk! See how she is this evening before even thinking about feeding her milk or anything.

Keep trying with the water because you don't want her to get dehydrated (google for symptoms).

Thanks

Yes I thought just water just done 5oz of boiled cooled water and she's had 3oz so I'll see how she goes.

Just put her on a water proof playmat and I'm praying for no more vomit

Unless you are breastfeeding in which case it is fine to carry on.

Ok, so now let her rest for half an hour and then try her with sips of water (like teaspoonfuls at a time). Poor both of you .

My dd was never sick until she was almost 5 years old! I couldn't really believe it when it finally happened . Good job too as I am horribly emetophobic, but yet always seem to find myself on the threads about vomit ...

Gillyan · 18/06/2010 11:04

ha ha, no my 4.5 yr old has never reallty been sick and this ONE ONLY EVER baby milky sick stuff, poor lamb she looks white as a sheet

my ds (14mo) was also sick all last night, I'm bf still so have been doing that but have also been trying him with some homemade rehydration solution which I find works well if I get any sickness bugs (1tsp sugar, pinch of salt, squeeze of lemon juice in a 9fl oz bottle of cooled boiled water) he's happier to drink it than just water and it's been staying down for longer than plain water. we've just been to the gp who said it's probably teething related

hope your dd is better soon

Gillyan · 18/06/2010 11:30

thanks hope yours gets better too.

Just read somewhere that plain water isn't good for them as not enough salts in so your rehydration thing sounds good and I might give her a bit of juice in a min.

She's just been sick again and I've not even given her anymore water since the first lot!

poor girl, maybe take her to the gp if she doesn't improve?

Gillyan · 18/06/2010 13:00

Yes I might take her later, she's just had 3oz juice so going to wait and see if that comes back up. She's also got a rash but its where she was caked in sick this morning and I think it's irritated her eczema but it looks awful so if it doesn't calm down think I'll take her to docs, it probably is just eczema but you just never know do you! Hows your little one?

OP posts:
lindsell · 18/06/2010 13:17

Hope the juice stays down, sick can definitely aggravate eczema - I have eczema and mine is awful after having ds be sick down me! But you always want to be on the safe side with these thing, has she got a temperature?

He's having a nap at the moment thanks and hasn't been sick for a few hours so fingers crossed he's on the mend.

Gillyan · 18/06/2010 13:20

Oh good glad yours seems ok.

She's just done a load of diarreha now. Doesn't seem to have a temp and juice has stayed down so far and she's playing and seems a little perkier, fingers crossed here too

Gillyan · 24/06/2010 17:23

Thanks guys, we're all on the mend, my youngest one who was the one in hospital is now eating and drinking normally and me and my partner and my older one have all just felt really nauseous and hot for a couple of days and now its passed! Hurray. It was little ones first birthday yesterday and she managed to enjoy it! Yey!
