How long do nits live for (not in hair)?

DD had a friend round for tea who said she had headlice. I had a closer look and she certainly did.

Only realised this after the kid had been trying DD's wig on. Do I need to disinfect the wig and if so what with. Or can she just not wear it for a bit and if so how long till its safe to be used.

Thanks

Someone on here kept one in a matchbox to see and it lived for a few days. Wash the wig!

I don't think its machine washable. Maybe I need to slather some Hedrin on it

The kid knew she had nits, wish she'd been told to keep her hair away from other peoples' stuff.

They don't like cold - if the wig is hard to wash, bag it and stick in the freezer for a day or so

I just made that up.. but a quick google says a week in the freezer to make sure you kill off any eggs

Excellent, will freeze it. Thanks.
