3yo complaining of aching legs - normal?

My 3yo dd often complains that her legs/knees/feet hurt. She's complained about this on and off since she could talk, mainly at night time, but sometimes in the day as well. She occasionally wakes up really upset in the night because one or both of her legs hurts so much. (I'm fairly confident it is genuine)
As a child I remember having 'growing pains' in my legs and they would often ache. Is it just this, or should I get it checked out? I'd be interested to hear of anyone else who has this problem.

DD used to do this a lot. She complained that she didn't like walking because it made her legs ache. Then I found out she had flat feet.

My four year old also complains of aching knees especially at night - particularly if we are late home after a day out and he has fallen asleep in the car on the way back. Its odd, but I remember doing that when I was a child too - they ached so much I used to cry myself to sleep once I got into bed. It might be just "growing pains" - whatever they are! Difficult to know though isn't it whether its something more serious especially if she has done it for a year or so.

Thanks - she does also walk on tiptoes a lot. What does this mean?

Could be flat arches...

DS1 has complained of aches in his bones every so often, which I've put down to growing pains.

I'd suggest you go see your GP to hopefully put your mind at rest.

My DS had this last year - when he had just turned 3.

I mentioned it to my very proactive GP and she arranged a blood test - turned out he was anaemic. Its quite common at this age, especially if they've recently been ill - mine had C Pox - and aching legs is a symptom.
