Can penicillin cause a rash?

DD is 8 months old and has an ear infection

She has been on amoxycillin since yesterday evening and she now has a rash on her back and neck

She hasn't got a fever anymore so wondered if it was the ABs?

TIA

yes probably.

Ask your pharmacist what you should do.

LIZS · 12/06/2010 08:42

could be a reaction to the ab's or the infection itself

rubyslippers · 12/06/2010 08:46

Thanks so much for the quick responses

Will seek advice from the pharmacist

DD often has a pimply rash following illness. Usually her chest and neck. I'd see a pharmacist too.

I get a rash with penicillin so they usually prescribe me erythremycin (sp?) which is a non penecillin based one.

poor little baby my friend's DC was in hospital recently after a massive allergic reaction to penicillin.. red rash like I have never seen, from head to toe.. do the glass test on the rash anyway, just to be sure

Ds2 had an allergic reaction to penicillin after taking amoxicillin for a chest infection. His rash was on the chest and back too - he was covered in pustules that looked like early stage chicken pox spots. Itdidn't seem to bother him at all but looked awful.

Def. worth takng him to the GP next week. If it is a penicillin reaction this needs to be flagged up on his medical records.

you can get a viral rash and you can also get a rash from antibiotics. If appears to be getting worse go to the docs. Check if it is in the mouth or sore eyes too.

alypaly · 14/06/2010 16:51

if it is an allergy to the penicillin make sure doc puts it on her medical records
