How do you get a 2 yr old to keep his glasses on?

Just that really! My friend's DS has just turned two and they have just been told he needs to wear glasses every day, all day.

All those of you with glasses-wearing toddlers, what are your top tips for convincing him to keep them on?!

TIA .

bribery and corruption!! Get them involved in something while wearing them e.g drawing, painting, reading a book, etc and they forget they have them on. (dd had glasses from 18 months and it was less hassle than I thought it would be to get her to wear them)

If they can see better with them on then surely they would want to keep them on unless they are uncomfortable.

Tell him they are magic super hero glasses and when he is wearing them he can see a million times better than anyone else?

ShinyAndNew · 10/06/2010 12:56

Alternatively you could try superglue, but I hear this is frowned upon by some

nickschick · 10/06/2010 12:59

I used to pretend I couldnt see ds if he didnt have them on .....id say 'where is he?' 'has he shrunk his glasses are here but where is he?' then id crawl around the floor saying ds2 ds2 where are you? he yell here here ?(amid much laughter)and id say i cant see you unless your glasses are on.

very odd but it worked - doesnt now hes 14 and still hates them .

Thanks for all these tips! jenroy, don't know whether that works with a two year old does it?

I like the idea of not being to see him - and lol at the superglue!

The other worry I have is that our toddlers will want to take them off him - anyone found this to be a problem? My DS is obsessed with glasses and is often nicking dh's and his nana's .

do they have head strap things like sports people wear, also for your little ones can you get pretend glasses
love the superglue

EddieIzzardismyhero · 10/06/2010 21:22

Not sure about the headstraps - will ask!

DS got them at 3. He really didn't want to wear them at first but when he realised how much better he could see it wasn't a problem.

He does take them off and we have had a few broken ones but it isn't too bad. He mainly takes them off when they need cleaning (15 times a day )

Good Luck, it really wasn't as bad as I thought, he even asks for them now

purpleflower123 · 10/06/2010 21:28

He never had a headstrap, didn't get offered one.

feedthegoat · 10/06/2010 21:30

Has he actually got the glasses yet?

I only ask because he might suprise you. My ds completely refused to wear sunglasses but was prescribed glasses last year (aged 3) and has to wear them all the time.

I dreaded it as thought it would be a constant battle but he has accepted it from the beginning and it hasn't been a problem at all.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 11/06/2010 13:08

Sorry, thought I'd replied to this last night but obviously it didn't post!

He hasn't got the glasses yet so fingers crossed she's worrying about nothing. I will pass on all your tips though. Thank you .
