could be intersuseption (sp?)? This is where the bowel telescopes and effectively blocks. - red jelly mucus is one of the things they look for. My DD had it when she was 6m. She was also projectile vomiting bile. Quite unusual and took a few days to diagnose - we went to regional specialist unit where they only see about 20 a year, She was sorted out with some air up her bottom to untangle her bowel.

ShowOfHands · 09/06/2010 22:32

Oh trace. Are you with her?

Has she been taking antibiotics at all?

trace2 · 09/06/2010 22:32

DS had a gastro when he was 2 or 3, diarrhea with blood. We first though it was a tomato sauce, but ooh doctor came and used a special strip to test it for blood. There was a lot of it. He also had a fever-I think, not sure, but he definitely wasn't feeling well. It cleared up within a couple of days.

Hope she'll be feeling better very soon.

bronze · 09/06/2010 22:34

ds had huge amounts of blood and clots and stuff in his nappy once. Turned out they think he tore inside somewhere and they left him to heal

trace2 · 09/06/2010 22:36

thank you all

lucysmum they did mention this but cos she not in pain they ruled it out, she still in i have to come home with my aspergers son who only will sleep if i am here( i hate leaving her but her dads with her) which makes it worse as i sit thinking phoning him all night

yes was on abbs two weeks ago been in hospital for tonsils and adonodes out.

my DD was not in any obvious pain. Drew knees up a bit, but no more than with a bit of wind or colic. Just got very floppy as she was dehydrated by the time they worked out what was up. Make sure they keep her hydrated. In the end they did ultrasound which proved it. They did say it often follows a virus which has somehow made the bowel more stretchy ( can you tell I'm not a medic!) Hope you get some answers soon.

If she has recently been in hospital and on antibiotics, it could be something like the c-difficile bacteria.

I know a couple of people who have had it and had both bloody stools and a raspberry jelly type mucus.

They will test for this of course. It was the jelly poo that rang a bell.

Whatever it is, she's in the best place. Poor girl.

trace2 · 09/06/2010 22:47

thanks lucysmum dd is 3 but as other problems and a feeding tube so no way she can get dehydrated ! she as cried when she pooed this evening.

Any diarrhoea? Offensive smelling poo?

Have they told you when the test results will be back?

ShowOfHands · 09/06/2010 22:53

If she had it she would need a specific antibiotic like vancomycin or metronidazole. It very much depends on the severity and symptoms.

Obviously I don't know, just trying to reassure you that something 'simple' like bacteria that many people have in their gut can cause such symptoms.

trace2 · 09/06/2010 22:53

no but two days ago she had a jelly poo i mean jelly it wobbled its dark green but chloe is always dark green, its her feeds ,

yes about 24 hours for poo tests but they have worried me saying they going to test for leukaemia am sure thats nothing to do with it.

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 09/06/2010 22:55

People with c-difficile have green poo too. Usually smells vile.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2010 22:58

hope she is ok!

Alouiseg · 09/06/2010 23:00

They'll be mentioning Leukaemia because it could be a blood disorder. If they suspect that they will let you know their suspicions as soon as a full blood count is done. Which takes minutes to get back. Phone your dh and ask him if they've done a full blood count and ask for the results.

Chances are it's not Leukaemia, but well worth ruling out for your peace of mind.

Good luck xx

trace2 · 09/06/2010 23:01

if she as this will it show it the poo test?

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 09/06/2010 23:03

Yes.

As Alouiseg says, the blood tests will rule out leukaemia very quickly.

trace2 · 09/06/2010 23:03

thank you Alouiseg it did come back at 11.1 i think so fine then pew thank you it takes a load of my mind
