What can I put on DD's bum?

She's just potty trained and the poor thing has managed to get a tummy bug. She is doing small runny poos every hour or so and her bum is getting really sore now. We have so rarely had nappy rash in our house that we have no nappy cream in and can't get out to get any!

What else would help that we might have in the house?

whisked egg white is really good for a quick fix. pop it on and let it dry in.

fab - will try it. Does it work as a good barrier?

And do I have to whisk it so it's like meringue-making consistency?

8 hour cream works an absolute treat if you have any in your make up bag...don't recommend for long term use though since it gets a bit pricey!

vaseline works a treat.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 09/06/2010 18:56

No neither of those :-( Don't have a make up bag!

aloe vera anything?

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 09/06/2010 19:06

Found some vaseline . And remembered from ages ago a recipe for chamomile tea and honey wipes mixture so have made up some of that. Hopefully it'll start getting better now and we won't have to hear that pitiful 'ow' from her next time we wipe her bum!

Metanium.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 09/06/2010 19:15

We don't have any nappy cream, which was why I was asking what I could put on that I might actually have.

Poor DD, vaseline usually helps with DD. Hope she gets better soon and well done on the potty training.

And- assume you're doing this anyway- wipe with warm water and cotton wool or a soft cloth. No toilet roll or wipes. Ouch.

I would also recommend egg white. Just paint it on with a brush and let it dry over. It does work, and was recommended to me by my Health Visitor many moons ago.

Metanium is really good - we are a house of sensitive bottomed children so its like miracle paste for us. Very good barrier cream.
