rash - what is it??

No one can tell me what the rash is that my DS (16 mths) is covered in.

Is small spots - some have got tiny pinhead whiteheads on. Started on Friday AM on his tummy (about 15) and spread to arms, legs and back. Then left tummy but come up again yesterday pretty much all over. So now, all over tummy, back, legs, top of arms and a few on neck - lots on back of neck.

Most doc could tell me is 'viral rash'. Not a lot of help. He didn't seem too concerned but am getting in a tizz.

No other symptoms. Perhaps a bit more tired than normal, but hasn't slept through for 2 weeks, so could also be that. Otherwise eating, sleeping, activity, humour all normal.

Suggestions???

Sounds really weird, I guess if he is not "suffering" any other symptoms that it is not too serious. I guess that the ones with whiteheads are a little infected. Could it be a food intolerance? I am clutching at straws here?

Hohumchops · 08/06/2010 18:35

he is an atopic baby, but we have been through the list of 'what have we changed/given him that's different' but can't think of anything after racking brains

Try not to worry about it if no other symptoms and dr is unconcerned

Hope it clears up very soon

Ledodgy · 08/06/2010 18:46

It isn't due to suncream is it?

YoginiPinkBikini · 08/06/2010 18:48

Suncream is a great suggestion!

Hohumchops · 08/06/2010 18:51

hhmm....i did put some sunscreen on his arms and legs, but not his tummy or lower back. he hasnt' reacted before to the sunscreen - although only used it a few times so far this year. also, not used in last few days and it has got worse over last night.

Are unknown viral rashes really that common?

Yes non-specific viral rashes are quite common, my DD had them a couple of times. They move around the body, last for a 2-10 days and then they are gone. Don't worry too much (I know it is difficult as I have been there) just keep the LO comfortable.

YoginiPinkBikini · 08/06/2010 18:56

Very common

if they are spots with white heads please go to the gp as soon as possible, could be a nasty skin infection that needs to be treated.

Hohumchops · 08/06/2010 19:01

went to the GP yesterday Sonilaa - they said most likely a viral rash

it is such a worry ticktockclock - he looks horrible - gave him a bath and can only just stop muyself from crying as he is just so spotty! Good job he doesn't seem to be too bothered.

I really do think that with theses non-specific viral rashes they actually make your LO look worse than they actually feel. I always hate when DD is ill, it is one of the worst parts of being a mum for me, but you will get through it.
