Rash with blisters? What can it be?

My DS, 6, has got a small rash on his leg with blisters on it.

He has had it a few days but only noticed the blisters today. We have been in Devon on holiday and he has been in the sea and in the sun but not sure what it is.

He is well otherwise, but sometimes complaining it is hurting him a bit.

Any ideas?

Chicken pox?

OnEdge · 05/06/2010 00:04

sounds like chicken pox to me too

ThatVikRinA22 · 05/06/2010 00:09

how about nipping to see your gp?

could be anything. chicken pox, or allergic reaction, or sunburn even. without seeing the rash no one will be able to diagnose it - you need to see a doctor.

even if chicken pox, the gp would note it on his records that he has had it and would give you some calamine lotion and paracetamol etc.

i would give a coolish bath, give an antihistamine, calpol for pain, and see gp

He has already had it. The rash is literally 10cm wide and just on his leg.

Vicar, yes may take him to the out of hours doc tomorrow, despite me vowing never to go there again after they have misdiagnosed so many things with my youngest DS. There's no alternative to them tho is there.

Thanks.

a burn? Vicar's right, there's no way of knowing without us seeing it. You are better off taking him to see the GP, you can also ask at the pharmacy.
They can catch chicken pox more then once by the way.

hotpotmama · 05/06/2010 00:13

Vicar, my first reply was to first two replies, hadn't seen yours at that point?

I don't need to wake him now and take him tho do I? Unless of course he develops a fever or wakes in pain.

No, he's asleep and not in any discomfort.

hotpotmama · 05/06/2010 00:18

May be impetigo after googling it. Hope not tho.

it sounds like a heat rash . Did he have a thick greasy sun cream on as they cn sometimes block the pores.

hotpotmama · 06/06/2010 21:48

took him to docs and he thinks its an allergic reaction to something in the sea! Not too sure still but am going to take him to my docs tomorrow and see what they say as its still very blistered and red.

Thanks for all the replies

he hasnt been stung by a jelly fish has he.is it just on his shin

WellMeantHellBent · 06/06/2010 23:45

Is it a prickly heat rash?

I get this on a patch of skin near my bra strap, I guess I must've been burned there before, it has lots of tiny fluid filled blisters that dry out after a day or two. It isn't red or anything just the same colour as my skin and bumpy.

Doubt it'll be impetigo, that normally only occurs inside nose or around the mouth. If it is chicken pox you'll know by the morning, he'll be covered!
