dd1 has a very small verruca, on which we've been putting wart paint (as prescribed by GP) since Thursday. The GP also suggested that I try starving it of oxygen by putting gaffer tape over it, but the gaffer tape kept coming off so I've been putting zinc oxide tape over it instead.

This evening after her bath I took the tape off, and a circle of skin peeled off with the tape. In the middle of the skin was a white thing, I suppose the verruca? And her foot now has a crater in it with a patch of white skin in the middle but no hard lump and it doesn't hurt her when I press it. I'm thinking maybe the whole verruca has come away and left behind some dead skin underneath it. It's pretty gross.... does this sound right? And do you think I should stop applying the wart paint now? Was this supposed to happen?? I was not expecting it. And there's even a little bit of pink skin in the circle which came off on the tape... blech.

Sounds like you've got rid of it to me. Have you any tea tree oil in the house? Maybe dab a bit of that on the area as it's anti-viral.

I think you've had a bit of a result there

Sounds vaguely similar to what I remember happening when I had one as a child. I'm pretty sure that came away leaving a crater type hole behind!

Aranea · 02/06/2010 21:00

Ooohh, I really hope we have got rid. That would be great, especially as dd1 has become rather obsessed with her verruca!

I do have some tea tree oil I think. Will dab some on in the morning, thanks! I didn't know it was anti-viral.

How did I do that?

I'm relieved to hear that, feedthegoat. I didn't know this would happen - I just thought it would gradually shrink.

How do you cut dead bits off, Kerry? The only bit which looks dead is at the bottom of the crater. Also I am a bit nervous about applying the paint because it says 'take care not to apply to healthy skin' - I don't really know what the paint does but might it be bad to put it on to the bottom of the crater if the wart is actually gone?

eeuuuwwww! Your ds is obviously braver than my dd. She gets nervous when she sees me get the nail scissors out just to cut the tape!
