Could this be teething?

Hi there,

Am first time Mum and my gorgeous DD (one year old a week today!) got her first two teeth, in one week, about 3 weeks ago. We didn't hear a peep out of her the whole time and didn't even know!

However, last night, she wouldn't settle. She's had runny poos the last couple of days and a bit of nappy rash which she's never really had before.

Then last night, she was sick at about 11pm. It was awful, she's not a sicky baby and she was struggling because she was quite congested (as she always is) and was choking. Anyway, after she'd been sick, we gave her some nurofen for babies and she went to sleep.

This morning, drank all her morning bottle but didn't want any breakfast or lunch and slept for a good couple of hours this morning.

Then, about an hour ago, was sick again. Again, very congested and struggling to breathe but it was just a very small amount that she brought up.

I know it sounds awful because she's not well but I'm really hoping that she's teething and that's all it is. She is very happy in herself, not at all miserable, just doesn't want her food.

The problem is, I am an emetophobe so I have a phobia of vomiting (myself - I'm fine when other people are ill), so I'm just hoping that it's not a bug. Surely if it was a bug, she wouldn't be keeping all her milk down, which she is at the moment and she is fine.

So could it just be teething again? Also, another reason that I'm hoping that it's not a bug is that it's her christening on Sunday and we've got 45 people coming to our house afterwards, so if we go down with something, we may have to cancel!

Please reassure me...

It could be teething. DD has never been sick but she has all the other things you mention - nappy rash, runny bottom, off food. She also tends to have red cheeks, drools and chews her fingers a lot.

Thank you! She didn't have the red cheeks with the first two or drooling, in fact she did have a bit of unexplained sickness then so maybe that's what it was and we didn't even realise!

It sounds like it might be from what you've said. It's really tough for them sometimes - DS sailed through it but DD really suffers poor thing.

It defintely sounds like teething as my 7,5 month old has similar symptoms since yesterday!

Only thing that does not ring a bell is congestion/breathing problems - I would still consult the doctor to be 100% sure...all the best!
