Refusal to take medicine in 5m old

Ok so does anyone have any tips for getting Calpol into a baby who is determined she's not having it? Tried spoon and syringe and she either dribbles it out or gives me a sticky shower. She gets really upset about the whole thing and blows bubbles with her crying. Sitting, lying down, in my arms, it makes no difference - and the odd time I think I've managed to get a bit down, she throws up within minutes!!
I really need to get her temperature down!!

Poor you. No real advice, just keep trying! Definitely found the syringe better at that age.
She'll be taking like a little bird soon enough!

Does she take a bottle? If so, could you pop calpol in the teat and see if she sucks it out?

i agree with the bottle thing - or if you are breastfeeding, what i did...

... was add a bit at a time to my nipple to get DS to take it - he hated it at that age too. It won't take long as they are only allowed a small amount at that age - what is it 2ml or 2.5ml - it will only take a few dabs on yer boobies!

Good tips on getting temperature down - lukewarm wet flannel on limbs, head and face, and just a vest or nappy will do in this weather. I was told by my GP that it is a myth that they will catch a cold more easily. As long as your house isn't cold, then you LO will be fine in a nappy or vest. Hope she's feeling better soon.

I dd give them medicine dummies a bash - they were so so. One from boots was great (cheapo one from wilkos was rubbish)

Once you get the knack and she cottons on its calpol and its nice she'll be fine with syringe tho

I had to give my dd loads of meds from the start

paracetamol suppositories

get her clamped firmly against your body holding her arms and head still (takes some practice but it's possible to do and still have your other hand free). or if she's very little maybe you could swaddle her.

when she opens her mouth to cry aim syringe into cheek towards the back and press plunger at a steady rate so it doesn't make her gag too much.

when my dd was about 8 months or so, i once mixed calpol into petit filou. she ate it, but all the while eyeing me with this expression mid way between suspicion and disgust at the taste! was hysterical!

Thanks everyone. Was struggling with getting into her cheek but tried the Nurofen syringe last night with slightly more success. She's got this knack of coughing while crying so it comes shooting back out in a spray and covers me in a sticky mess - yuk!!!
Won't take a bottle so may have to resort to putting it on my boobs!!!
