DS was diagnosed by the dermatologist at the hospital today with baby psoriasis.
He's had raised red patches of itchy and nasty looking skin for about 11 weeks now. We saw our own doctor when they came up suddenly all over him 8 weeks ago and he diagnosed infected eczema. DS has been on antibiotics along with antimicrobial creams and antibiotic steroid creams on and off since then. Saw our doctor on Friday and he was concerned that it wasn't healing at all so got us an emergency referral to the nearest department.
The dermatologist was lovely and explained that some gp's will never see a case of baby psoriasis like this in their careers and that specialists only see it once every couple of years so it's not suprising ours thought it was bad eczema.
We've been given a stronger steroid cream but can stop the antibiotics as the dermatologist said there is no infection there at all - it just resembles it. We also have some antihistamine syrup to use in extreem cases if it's so bad he can't sleep.
We have to go back in a fortnight to see how the cream is working and to start more treatments. We will also be having an appointment with a paediatric dermatologist from Exeter when they are next down or will be sent to them if it's deemed necessary.
It sounds as though we are going to be back and forth to the hospital for a long time but it's all worth it to help my little man. He's so good with it but gets so frustrated with the 20 minute creaming sessions!
I was wondering if there were any parents out there with experience of baby psoriasis so I can get my head aroud what this means for the longer term.
Just wish my baby didn't have to go through this.
