5 week old crying when he poos

I've recently noticed that some of DS2's random crying spells aren't all that random after all - they start about 10 minutes before he poos, and finish very soon afterwards (not all the random crying spells are down to his bowels, some are still a mystery).

Does/did anyone else's baby do this? Should I worry, or will it sort itself out in time?

How are you feeding him? How does his poo look? Maybe he just dislikes the sensation of having a full rectum (colon?).

Oh, bloody hell. Now mine's awake. Baby, not colon.

DD2 was exactly as you describe, I was never worried. She was a once every 3/4 days girl and it was the only time she cried.

His poo looks just the same as ever. He's BF. And poos about 6 times a day...

DD went through a phase of crying whenever she was about to poo... it lasted until about 10 weeks. Now she giggles when she's finished instead.

If the poo looks OK I shouldn't worry...

I think it's just that it's an odd sensation which they sometimes decide they don't like.

This is going to sound totally mad, but I'll throw it out there just in case - you could give EC (elimination communication) a try (catching the poo in a bowl/potty) - some babies seem to prefer this to pooing in a nappy. There was a thread about it recently here - it would be fine to just do it for poos and/or just to do it until your DS grows out of this phase if you want to.
