Intermittent fever in 2yo - no other symptoms

LO 2 yrs old has had a slight fever 38-39 over past 24 -36 hrs. It came down to 36.7 with nurofen/calpol but went back up this morning and has been up and down like this since the other evening.

He appears fine apart from the temperature and when it is up he is a bit clingy then he is running about like normal again a few minutes later. He is not complaining of any pain anywhere and I have tried to feel gently for any obviously swollen glands but can't tell.

He has never had a fever without any other symptoms before. What should I do?

I have read if fever is not away after 3 days then call GP but it is up and down and has not really been over 38 today but was 40 the other evening when this all started.

Thanks for any advice

My dd had this about 6 months ago (so when she was just over 2 and a half). Fever at some point every day, she would get tired, say she wanted to lie down, get a kind of glazed look and then I'd check and right enough, she had a temp of 38/39. Would give calpol or calprofen and the temp would come down and she would be fine again.

Every day for a week. Very odd. AFter 3 days we did see the gp just to make sure so I think you should too. But gp checked ears/throat/chest and generally looked at her and felt was okay so we kept going. After 7 days of at least one instance of fever a day, she just stopped getting the fevers. No explanation.

So the summarised reponse, might be nothing but go to see the gp anyway and explain fever not there all the time but don't like to keep going after this long without checking. The gp should understand that.

Hope your ds feels better soon.

Thanks very much for the reply. Just noticed my topic has posted twice for some reason.

A friend in RL said it might be linked to molars coming in but I can't see anything on his gumline either. Will take your advice thank you very very much
