Orange Urine

I have namechanged, as DD would be mortified if she knew I was posting about this.

However, she has just told me that her urine is orange coloured. I've not seen it, but I assume it must be pretty obvious, or she wouldn't have noticed.

She is 12.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

she isn't drinking enough

Could be something she ate or very strong urine which means she's not drinking enough. Wee should be pale straw coloured if you drinking enough fluids. Has she been running around a lot at school and got very hot and not had enough to drink after maybe?

or she has a UTI / kidney infection

Thanks for that - I thought it might be her medication - she's on calcium supplements - but I'll just get her to drink more.

I found a colour guide to orange urine!

  • Certain foods or drinks o Beets - turn urine reddish o Borscht (beet soup) - turn urine reddish o Blackberries - may lead to red urine o Rhubarb - can cause orange urine o Senna - can lead to orange urine
  • Blood in urine - see causes of blood in urine
  • Dehydration - causes darker urine or even a gold-color urine
  • Bile in urine - causes a tea-like or mahogany color.
  • Jaundice - causes bile in urine
  • See also causes of red urine, dark urine, or urine color changes
  • Excessive sweating
  • Insufficient fluid intake
  • Excessive intake of foods containing carotene
  • Riboflavin intake (one of B vits)
  • Rifampicin use
  • Phenazopyridine use

does the calcium tablet have vitamin C any B vitamin?
both result in very vivid neon urine (totally harmless, the body can only absorb about 80% of the tablet)

Not as far as I can see.
