dd (9mo) has a splinter in middle of sole. my grandma used to swear by something she called 'black ointment' for drawing out splinters. does it still exist?

Might have been magnesium sulphate? Granny used to call it "drawing cream" for drawing out things.

this might be it?

try softened hard soap (the underside of a bar that has been wet and left on side of sink) mixed with sugar under a plaster for a little while. It works a treat.

it is magnesium sulphate paste...just stir the contents of the little tub and put a blob on the splinter ( try and break the skin with a sterile needle first)cover with a piece of gauze and tape it on. leave it on as long as you can or replace daily til it comes out. Otherwise get someone to dig it out
