Help do i need to go to a&e with dd 4 months? Dh says no but i am not so sure

DD 4 months didnt wake for her usual feed, i went to wake her and she only wanted 1 oz, when she was awake she was making little panting noises when breathing and her tummy was big when breathing she seemed to me to be struggling. She has gone back to sleep now and laid next to me she is not making the grunting noises anymore but her breathing seems irregular. She has had some episodes of hands and arms going black and blue since birth and is waiting to see a consultant, so am just a bit concerned. She also had her 3rd lot of injections today.

Is there any tests etc i could do to see if her breathing is ok? How many breaths should she take a minute? I think dh thinks i am stupid

You are NOT stupid - you are her mother, and your instinct is telling you something isn't quite right. Trust your instinct.

Phone NHS direct and see what they say.

You must never be worried about "wasting" doctor's/hospital time etc. That is what they are there for!

Phone nhs direct. And I also believe in trusting your instinct. Dd2 was in scbu after she was born and when we got discharged the consultant assured me to go back in if I felt things weren't riGht and they trusted a mothers instinct.

I would be concerned about a very young baby having breathing difficulty. I would take her in. They won't think you are being ridiculous, they are very nice to anxious parents of newborns in my experience. They will just check her over to make sure everything is okay.

I am sure she will be fine but best to be safe! You can always phone NHS Direct for their advice to reassure your DH, but I am pretty sure they will say the same thing.

she's probably just wiped from the jabs, and hot, but as others have said, trust your instincts - nhs direct will usually advise you to go to a&e for a baby that small though, so even if they say 'go to a&e', that doesn't mean that anything is necessarily serious, ok?

but with her history, and the vaguest possibility of adverse reaction, i think getting her checked would put your mind at rest.

I'd agree with the previous posters - NHS Direct or A&E. Not because I know anything about the symptoms you describe, but because you should trust your instincts. And with such a tiny baby, if it turns out to be nothing (which I hope is the case) no-one will begrudge their time checking her out.

Thanks for the replies i did take her to a and e and thankfully all ok. She has started with a cold tonight so probably was the start of that with the jabs thrown in to.
