My 8 month old had/ has some sort of tummy bug. She vomited a lot on Friday, from 4am. Last time she was sick was 5pm Friday. She's had lots of BF and water. Sometimes she seems to really want to eat and had loads of breakfast (porridge) yesterday, other times she's not interested. We've had 3 or 4 explosive nappies each day over the weekend (whole body job!). What should I be feeding her, if anything other than breastmilk? Sorry if this is a stupid question, haven't had this problem before!

Try the BRAT diet, bananas, rice, apple puree and toast. They're all bland foods that she should hopefully keep down. Try to spoonfeed her water to make sure she doesn't get dehydrated. DS had something similar a few weeks ago, not nice! Hope she gets well soon!

Mash potato, but easy on the dairy products as can irritate sore tummies.

Breastmilk is the best thing, because it's so easily digested that even if she is sick straight away, the vitamins etc will have already been absorbed. It's also really good at keeping them hydrated, and it's got the antibodies etc which will help her fight off the virus. So definitely breastfeed her as much as she wants. She will be fine - my DS didn't really pick up eating properly until 9 or 10 months, he was on pretty much just breastmilk at 8 months and he was putting on weight etc fine

Follow her lead and don't try to persuade her to eat etc if she isn't interested, you can offer food though if you think she wants it.

Thanks everyone. She's still not eating really and nappies aren't wet enough for my liking, considering the amount of breastfeeds she's wanting. She now has a rash on her torso so I've made a GP appointment. Probably nothing, but she's also really sleepy so not herself at all. She's just fallen asleep when I left her playing in her cot to have a shower. NEVER does that! Poor baby.
