How do I handle phoning the GP tomorrow?

DD saw a Behavioural Opthamologst on Wednesday

The BO phoned the GP on Thursday - she emailed Thursday evening & Friday evening to see if the GP had been in touch; she hasn't

The BO says I need to chance the GP tomorrow.

So when do I ring first thing or after lunch?

What do I say?

I'm being insecure & sad again

Katy I have read some of your previous posts and think you are getting somewhere here so please don't be sad. Can you not be a bit cheeky and make an appointment and go and see them, rather than playing chase the gp on the phone?

Katymac · 16/05/2010 22:42

I'll never get an appointment

Apparently DD losing her sight is not an emergency (I have been told)

Last time I asked for an appointment I was offered one 3 weeks away

They only talk to me when I force the issue with the receptionist (by crying)

Do your surgery do doctor phone calls? You could ring first thing and say you'd like the doc. to phone you after morning surgery.

Katymac · 17/05/2010 07:54

Good idea

Keep your fingers crossed for me

I hope you get through quickly and you get the call back you need.

Katymac · 17/05/2010 09:06

Well I am on hold & 8th in the queue

OP posts:
Katymac · 17/05/2010 16:33

Well I got through after about 20 minutes on the phone.

I asked the GP to phone back after surgery.

I got a phone call at about 2:30. The GP hasn't read the Opticians FAX yet (it was sent on Thursday) I should ring back on Wednesday.

Why would I need the appointment on 2nd June moved forward & it's a waste of time & money to go privately & no she won't refer me to Moorfields

Could anyone tell me how to react to this?

No-one?

Well, in your shoes I'd be looking to change GP to be honest, and if you don't have it already I'd ask the Optician to send you a copy of the fax she sent so you could show the new GP.

www.pals.nhs.uk/ is probably a good place to contact for advice too.

hedgepig · 17/05/2010 18:21

I bet you if the GP had gone blind she would be taking it seriously! I'd also be thinking about changing GPs.

HairyMaclary · 17/05/2010 18:37

Can you go there and wait? At reception if possible, time it near the end of the surgery in the morning and insist on talking to them.
Hearing stories like this make me realise how fab my GP's surgery is!

LIZS · 17/05/2010 18:48

Moorfields used to have an A and E/Outpatients - I went there once when I lived in London , had no gp and had iritis (sp?). Can you call them direct and ask about paediatric referrals ?

Katymac · 17/05/2010 20:19

Moorfields won't take us without a referral - I have phoned 4 times

I am wondering about changing my GP - but there isn't really much choice when you are rural

I am beyond words

Do contact PALS if you've not already, they are there to help people access NHS services.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2010 20:49

I'd also be making a complaint against my GP and changing. This is shoddy treatment.

BudaisintheZONE · 17/05/2010 20:51

Crikey. What a shite GP you have.

Would the behavioural opthamologist phone if you tell her you are getting nowhere with the GP?

I would be making serious complaint about the GP at this stage to be honest.

MumInBeds · 17/05/2010 20:51

Oh, just a thought, maybe you could contact your local MP and if that doesn't help then maybe the local paper (depending on how you feel about limelight).

Katymac · 17/05/2010 20:51

My opthamologist is the chairman of the British Association for this speciality

I can't find my PALS - the website is all over the place

Katymac · 17/05/2010 20:53

The BO phoned the GP in Thursday - I'm not sure what to do now

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/05/2010 20:57

Can you find your local PALS on this map?

thisisyesterday · 17/05/2010 20:58

call again tomorrow and ask to speak to a different GP (i presume you have a few at the surgery?)

just tell it like it is!
your daughter cannot see. This IS an emergency and you are not willing to wait.
you DEMAND a referral to moorfields and you have seen a B.O who has advised x,y,z

don't get off the phone until they agree

if you don't feel up to a confrontation do you have someone else who could do it? DH? your mum? a friend?

MumInBeds · 17/05/2010 21:00

Does this page help?

www.pals.nhs.uk/officemapsearch.aspx

Katymac · 17/05/2010 21:06

I think this is my local Pals & it does nothing that I can see?

OP posts:
Alouiseg · 17/05/2010 21:08

Just turn up to Morrfields A & E.

Oh, and report the GP and his surgery.
