DD hasn't had a proper dirty nappy since lsat Thursday. She's had a lot of poo smears (in fact every nappy i've changed recently) and a couple of small poos - not like normal though.
I started giving her more fruit but gave her strawberries which was a mistake as her bum's now red raw.
What should i do? i give her water - should i be more forceful about getting her to drink it? should i give her juice? Apart from sore bum, she is fine.

hi Stealth,Some cooled boiled water with a spoon of brown sugar will sort her right out.

StealthPolarBear · 12/05/2010 19:22

ooh right thanks, will give that a go. Does it have to be a spoonful though - that seems like a lot?
Just changed another nappy, more than a smear of poo, a small lump, but not her usual amount. So I don't know if she is constipated or not...

Pureed apricots and prunes are good unblockers!

Mamalade · 12/05/2010 19:26

Yeah,I'd give her a level spoon to 4 mls of water.mix it in while the water is still luke-warm so it dissolves. She needs a good clear out(if you pardon the expression!)poor pet.

StealthPolarBear · 12/05/2010 19:28

just looked the sugar water thing up and it seems to get good remarks, but on here there's a mum who's been feeding her 3 week old it for the last 2 weeks!! So pretty much all her life - surely you'd have mentioned it to the MW orHV by now?
Anyway, got it all ready to go - if I don't report back I am buried under a pile of poo - come and rescue me

SPB - dried apricots are amazingly laxative

also add a drop of olive oil to her food - helps oil everything up!

apparently sugar water is great but so is fresh orange juice (diluted)

StealthPolarBear · 12/05/2010 21:20

well she refused the water - mayvbe had a few drops
will try the apricots tomorrow, but she'll probably just swallow the pieces whole, will they have the desired effect??

I know it's a pain in the ass but an ounce of the sugar water every now and then will really make the difference to her.I'd give it til this time tomorrow. If she hasn't had an explosiona movement by then, you might have to give her some prune juice or something.I've never had to try anything else tbh.Hang in there.

Mamalade · 13/05/2010 18:32

Oops,my strike did not work,still,YSWIM.

toucancancan · 14/05/2010 13:08

Any movement stealth?

Mamalade · 14/05/2010 14:31

Do you think she'e buried under a dozen dirty nappies?

StealthPolarBear · 14/05/2010 19:38

oh sorry, thank you for asking
have done a few sugar water, prunes, orange juice and it is getting better
No explosive nappies as I was expecting but she's had many (maybe 8) slightly dirty nappies today
Just want to go back to one decent poo every day or every other day
