Red patch on ds gum- any ideas or any dentists about?

Hi my ds is 5 and I have noticed a red patch on his gum above his front teeth, it's not an ulcer and it's not raised just suddenly more red than the rest of his gums. Also a red spot (again not raised) on thegum on the inside of his lip. Any ideas? Should I book him in at the dentist or is this reasonably normal? He has not lost any teeth yet and looks a long way from a wobbly one. Thanks in advance
