dd3 has been unwell for almost 2 weeks now. she saw a GP last saturday who said she had a virus. we went on holiday to great yarmouth on monday, and came back today. she slept 12 hours a night, and then was sleeping during the day as well.

i am getting really concerned now, as this is not like dd3 at all. she usually polishes off 2 bowls of porriage in the morning, loads of lunch and demands food all day long as is hungry. now she is eating a couple of spoonfuls of food only.

i am also not sure, but think she may have a lump on her neck. at the front, not where you usually see glands up.

not sure whether to take her back to out of hours docs tomorrow, or childrens a+e.

she isnt vomiting, or having tummy troules. but is having random high temps, which come and go.

yes I would def take her back to out of hours doc at the very least

misdee · 07/05/2010 19:07

btw, she didnt do anything on holiday. she wouldnt play, she wouldnt dance, she just wanted to sit in dd4 buggy and snooze, rest.

she looks like she has lost weight, and her breath smells funny and horrid despite tooth brushing.

definitely a trip to docs.. could have a lingering infection or viral/ post viral illness /fatigue

sounds utterly miserable

that much sleep, loss of appetite and a lump on her neck does need looking at.. can 5 year olds get glandular fever or the like?

misdee · 07/05/2010 19:14

would i be better taking her to a+e? i am really that concerned. am thinking she might need bloods taking.

yes out of hours doctor
make sure you emphasise the lenght of time it'sbeen going on and the gland

colditz · 07/05/2010 19:17

take her to out of hours doc.

Ask for blood glucose test.

Screams diabetes to me.

Also ask for all other checks obviously, as I'm not a professional and may well be barking up the wrong tree..

PixieOnaBallotBox · 07/05/2010 19:18

I'd take her to Out of Hours tonight - it sounds like she needs seeing ASAP.

Misdee dd was exactly like this during the easter holiday. But she also had frothy, caramel coloured poo too...
Gp said it was either a virus or due to stress

I think it was a bug. A very draining bug.
She didn't eat properly for a few weeks, ad a temp on and off, complained of tummy ache and was very sleepy. Not interested in playing etc

Hope she's better soon.

misdee · 07/05/2010 19:24

just trying to get hold of my mum to get her diabetes monitor over here. if high/low reading then will go a+e tonight. if normal, then docs in the morning.

misdee, I would take her tonight - if it is something really serious, they can admit her or give her the medication she needs.

JackBauerIsZonerrific · 07/05/2010 19:38

Sounds like a good plan. I would get that properly checked asap as well.

misdee · 07/05/2010 19:46

6.3 3 hours after eating?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 07/05/2010 19:50

I think that is normal.

jellyjelly · 07/05/2010 19:50

why dont you put it on health? or is it already?

JackBauerIsZonerrific · 07/05/2010 19:53

some info here

I don't understand it tbh .

nickytwotimes · 07/05/2010 19:55

SOunds like glandular fever to me.
Wee ones can get it , yes.
Very easy to test for.
Hope she is better soon, wee soul.

misdee · 07/05/2010 22:05

just got back from a+e. they ran through diabetes checks and that was all fine.
poor luv has a nasty UTI though. which explains a lot. i suspected it over a week ago, but out of hours doc said no as dipstick was fine. hopefully now she has the right treatment she will feel better super-quick.

sure she will feel better very soon xxx

JackBauer · 08/05/2010 09:25

Oh yes, DD1 gets UTI's and no symptoms of weeing hurting, they are awful, knock her out cold for ages.

Easioly cured though, she'll be feeling better ina few days!

misdee · 08/05/2010 12:42

she is back in bed today already. temp has spiked back up.

started the antibiotics last night, so they finish mobnday morning.

OP posts:
drinkyourmilk · 08/05/2010 12:49

I'd expect to see a difference after 24 hours. If she's not changed by sunday afternoon i would be assessing whether or not to take her back, or at least see gp first thing monday. Is she taking plenty of fluids?

Hope she perks up soon.

misdee · 08/05/2010 12:52

she is drinking loads. which is why i initially took her to a+e as was worried about diabetes.

she is so scrawny looking as well.

she did just eat a slice of toast and a few spoonfuls of beans for lunch so at least she is eating something.

OP posts:
JackBauer · 08/05/2010 13:05

Her temp will spike, it normally takes DD1 about 36 hours to see a change tbh, and that is just the temp going and slight appetite coming back. She is always knackered for the next few days so don't worry if it takes awhile.
