DS 3yo - Conjunctivitis - WWYD?

DS came down with conjunctivitis last week, so I kept him off playschool and treated it with antibiotic eye drops from the chemist. It all seemed fine over the weekend but he's got up this morning and his eyes are gooey again, and I'm thinking maybe I need to keep him off again today and take him to the doctors? At very least I don't want him infecting all the other kids at playschool - passing conjunctivitis around is bound to make me popular

I've spoken to NHS direct who are going to phone me back, and I'm wondering about ringing the GP at 8.30 when they open - just wondered what others thought/would do? He seems fine otherwise, just gunky.

Anyone, any suggestions? We're running out of time and no word from NHS Direct so I think I might have to take him in and ask the lady at playschool what she thinks, although I don't relish trying to drag him home again if she sends us away!

Saline solution to help clear the gunk. (Salt in cooled boiled water) Do this as often as you need to. Best to use cotton wool to clean his eyes.

How long has he had it? Some drs won't give antib's if it's only been a day or two (response is that it will clear up by itself). But if he's had it longer than that, and it sounds like he has, take him to your GPs. My nursery will take kids back after they've had the antib drops for 24 hours.

Also, change his sheets and towels to get rid of any lingering snot that may exaserbate the conjuntivitis.
