DS1 is 25 months and not yet been. Does he need to go for a check up?

Presumably he has teeth. I would take him, just for the experience and getting used to it. DD went to the dentist from six months old. She loves it and views it as a treat.

start taking him when you go so he getsused tot he whole thing. obviously not if you are having a root canal or something!

both my lo's went from when they got their first teeth (around 6 months old). When my 6 month check is due I book for me and the 2 kids and the dentist has a look at their teeth too. DC's are now 6 and 3.

Take him next time you go. The Dentist will count his teeth and let him sit in the chair. Then he'll get used to going.

I have always taken DS with me. More through necessity than as a teaching aid but it has gotten him used to the idea.

Dentist didn't want to start looking in his mouth until he was over 2. Last visit was the first time we'd gone for his teeth to be looked at. He wouldn't open his mouth but dentist wasn't worried. He said at this age, if we're brushing regularly and I can see no problems then he'd rather not push it and make DS scared of him.

We're going again in a few weeks (DS is now just 3) and I'm hoping he'll open his mouth this time! We're taking DH too so he'll be third in the chair which should make it seem a lot less scary.

That's a good tip actually - make an appointment for you both at the same time and you go first. When they can see you do it, it won't seem so scary.
