Black dots on scalp??

CoupleofKooks · 03/05/2010 11:08

DS1 has these weird black dots on his scalp - mostly around the parting, but in patches all over his scalp. They do rub off if you scrape them with a fingernail - they don't shampoo out or comb out.

Until quite recently he used to have cradle cap in this area, but it seems to have gone now - I am wondering if it's connected? I don't think he has head lice, I can't see any eggs (haven't checked with comb yet but am going to check thoroughly later).

Any ideas please?

Black dot ringworm?

CoupleofKooks · 03/05/2010 11:12

i did find that when googling, but i don't think it is ringworm - they describe that as being broken off bits of hair looking like a black dot - this is like a tiny scab or black bit of skin or something, that is on the scalp but not attached firmly to it like a hair would be

My DS had this when he was a few months old exactly as you describe. Dr said it was nothing and it disappeared quite quickly..
DS also had cradle cap

leoleosuperstar · 03/05/2010 11:14

It looked like a pen dot to me and as you said it would scrap off with a gentle scratch

CoupleofKooks · 03/05/2010 11:14

do you think i should go to doctor to have it checked out? i am happy to wait and see, as it isn't bothering ds1, but i'm worried it's something hideous and we are passing it around

My 2yo DD had these, they've gone now though.

No idea what they were!

CoupleofKooks · 03/05/2010 18:39

how strange

how long did they last for, do you remember?

OP posts:
leoleosuperstar · 04/05/2010 09:14

Not long - tbh they just disappeared and I thought no more about them. Dr seemed a bit miffed and didn't give any explanation.

Must be something to do with cradle cap?

CoupleofKooks · 04/05/2010 09:35

yes dp says it's the cradle cap drying up and dropping off
it looks terrible!

Do they look like little blackheads?
