My sons big toe

My son (20 months) pulled a door over his bare toe this afteroon, screamed in pain, lots of tears. He has what looks like a bruise under the nail, about a quarter of the size of the nail and the tip of his toe is red still.

He can walk fine and I bent the toe later on and it bends fine with no pain or any obvious discomfort from him, but am worried about the nail. Will it fall off do you think, or does this sort of thing happen? Im sure I read somewhere about when nails get bruised they fall off

Hi there.

The same thing happened to my ds. And yes, the nail on his toe did fall off unfortunately! It didnt really bother him, as the nail grew, it kind of starting coming away, so it took a wee bit of time before it came off completely.

ooh sorry hope you are ok - these things always seem more upsetting for mum don't they!

Hi

Thanks for replying both. His toe is still a little red at the tip this morning but the bruising doesnt seem to be any worse than it was when it happened last night so am hoping it wont get any worse. If it does though I am relieved to hear all will grow back ok I saw someones foot once at the beach and they didnt have a toenail on the big toe so was just panicking incase that was going to happen.

Am feeling a bit better about things today, thanks honey
