How do you clean you little man's willy?

I keep reading 'do' pull the foreskin back...then read 'no dont'.

He has had one case of ballanitis and want to avoid it again if poss.

He is a bit iffy about us touching him much on his willy after the pain of the ballantis but today I trie dto give it a good clean and did retract the forskin a little and he wasnt bothered by that.

he is only 21 months old..

any advice?

there is no need to retract his foreskin or clean it or anthing

we use warm water on a flannel at change times, and just plain water in the bath

You don't. It's self cleaning. At some point usually during primary school years, the natural adhesions that hold the foreskin to the glans break down and the foreskin should retract easily. When that happens and certainly by early adolescence, he should be taught to pull it back and clean underneath, but not before. Leave it alone.

Thanks

lots of cleaning at nappy times and flannel wash in the bath is what we do too.

Brewster - dont. Foreskin in young boys does not retract. You will hurt him. That is probably why he is 'iffy'.

If he has balanitis go to the GP and get an appointmentto see a specialist. See my post here and do go on and read the whole thread it is in as it is from someone with a DS with ballanitis and requiring circumcision.

Please ignore the other hysterical circumcision threads on MN of late.

My DS2 had ballanitis and the treatment is circmcision or preputioplasty in less severe cases. There is no other treatment if it keeps recurirng. Cleaning will not stop it happening and your DS will have a foreskin that is far too tight and fused to his glans anyway for it to be retracted.

We had to take ds to the docs last week with a sore inflamed willy and I felt like a terrible mother for not thoroughly cleaning it ever .......

GP said absolutely no way should you pull the foreskin back and do anything specific. Dunk in the plain bathwater everynight is fine, and just leave it be.

Thanks for all the comments

I know what you mean MeltedFlumps...I felt awaful too like it was my fault for not keeping him clean enough or something...

littlemad (DS) is circumsised and exh is very -paranoid- attentive to cleanliness littlemad got balanitus and the GP said it was more likely caused by 'over zealous' cleaning by my ex-h (it started the day after DS came home froma visit.

GP said under no circumstances pull the bits about, even went as far as to phone exh and explain it.
