DD is 4 months old, had 3rd set of jabs on wednesday..she had a temperature in the night and was not drinking much milk thursday. No temp since. Thursday night she was VERY blocked up and i was up all night making sure she didn't stop breathing Today she has come out in a bright red rash but its very patchy and only on her scalp and forehead! The patches feel hot and its all across her forehead, not patchy there. Ive tried to take a pic to put on here but the rash is not showing up on it. Any ideas what it could be? Maybe related to jabs? I havent changed washing powder, she hasn't wore a hat today, is only on milk so cant be allergy to food...the rash is only on her head!

Could be a reaction to the vaccine.
Does it disappear when you press a glass to it?

maybebaby23 · 23/04/2010 21:18

Oh gosh..i dont know. The rash is bright red not purple/dark so i didn't think it could be meningitis......off to check thanks for that

Has she been out in the sun?

Does she seem well in herself. I know you said she was blocked up last night, but is she better today?

activate · 23/04/2010 21:21

is it a pinprick rash? I raised pinprick bumps?

whomovedmychocolate · 23/04/2010 21:22

Sounds like a heat rash. If she has a high temperature it is very common to get a rash particularly if the high temperature is caused by a virus. Reduce her temperature and see if the rash vanishes.

Suggest neurofen or paracetamol.

maybebaby23 · 23/04/2010 21:32

Thanks everyone. Just checked with glass and it dissapears under it. Its not raised or pinprick, it is just big patches of bright red and they feel hot to touch on her scalp Forehead doesn't. Very strange. No temperature since early hours of thurs morning whomoved so not sure it is heat rash? She seemed ok today just a bit sleepy but i put that down to the jabs..

It seems to me it must be a reaction to the jabs. If it doesn't get better by tomorrow I would take her to a GP just to confirm.
Is she okay in herself now?

maybebaby23 · 23/04/2010 21:40

She seems to be ok, she is fast asleep...oh im not going to sleep tonight now for worrying about her

Sleep is good, sleep with a normal temperature for more than four hours is an excellent sign things are getting back to normal. Don't worry, they all get sick, it's rarely anything more than a 48 hour bug and you do know when it's much worse than just a bug (well I did at least when DS was genuinely quite ill rather than just suffering a viral illness).

maybebaby23 · 23/04/2010 21:52

Thanks whomoved thats very reassuring. I shall keep a close eye on her tonight and hope that the rash is gone tomorrow!

Don't worry, if it's a viral rash the rash is often the sign of the virus abating, it's the last stage.

Mine always get bloody viral rashes, they look like strawberries most of the time!!! I think DS gets more than DD probably because he still - at nearly two - licks everything

maybebaby23 · 23/04/2010 22:04

Ah right, thats good maybe she has had a virus then. I didn't know a rash is the last stage. DD1 used to lick everything

I have just uploaded some photos of DD's rash as it shows up better in daylight..if you could have a quick look and tell me what you think i'd be grateful

It hasn't changed, still as red but no worse than last night. She had a very unsettled night again.

Hmmm...it looks like an allergic reaction to me, I would even say it looks a bit like eczema dd had when she was tiny...
Does she have a fever today? If not and she seems to be in good spirits, I would wait a day or two, I think, before going to the doctor.

lukewarmcupoftea · 24/04/2010 13:46

Hmm, most odd. That its just on her head and in her hairline as well. I would think that anything illness related would be more general. Although I'm hardly qualified to say as the only illness rash mine have had has been rubella - but we have lots of eczema/allergic reactions and agree it does look a bit like that. Don't suppose you've used a different shampoo recently? Or she's been lying on a different surface - e.g. new playmat? Or possibly a reaction to the sun?

maybebaby23 · 24/04/2010 14:19

Thanks ladies. I have just been thinking about eczema. But it is nowhere else on her body..she does have dry skin on her forehead but the rash doesn't look angry or sore like eczema i have seen.. she doesn't react when i touch it. It only appeared around 3pm yesterday! Ive noticed it goes very red when she is feeding and when she is lay across my knee when i change her nappy..Dont know if you can see but on her forehead the red rash stops at her hair line but follows the line all the way across iykwim? Very strange indeed.

She hasn't been in the sun. Only use oilatum junior in her bath. No new washing powder and she hasn't been anywhere different like new playmat etc. Hmm. Today she seems fine although is not feeding as well as she normally does.

Hi
Looks allergy/reaction to me tho no expert.
? Not had new hat on? Sure you would have mentioned it.

If only unusual thing is jab I would say that and mention to HV (with pics) on Monday. It will probably settle by then.
