Best way of giving ranitidine

DS2 is 10 weeks and has been on ranitidine for reflux for the last 10 days. I was just wondering if people could share their experiences of giving this medicine. At the moment he has 1ml 3 times a day and it tastes vile, he spits a lot of it out and cries so much its awful.
Any advice would be great

will doc change it to omperazole solution. it might taste better

I put in my ds2s bottle. omperazole did not work in our case.

That sounds like a lot for a 10 week old. My ds2 only has that much now at 9months and 19lbs (just had dosage checked at docs at 8mth check-up). Do you use a 1ml syringe? Goes in like drops. Omeprazole didn't work for us either and made him sicker. Not sure that helps at all sorry.

1ml does sound like a lot, DD started on it at 8 weeks and was on 0.27ml (and 1ml of domperidone) with her we just had a little syringe and were told to aim it in her cheek as it is less likely to make them choke but also her harder to spit out

its interesting people should comment on the dosage. when she was working it out she seemed to take ages doing the maths. It is based on him being 6kg (he was 5.5kg when last weighed but that was 3 weeks ago now). does anyone know the weight for weght dosage calculation?

Agree with others who have said that sounds like a big dose. My DS was prescribed 1ml three times a day, from about 5 weeks old. I can't remember his weight, but he was a big boy - 98th centile, and, as in your case, it took the Dr ages to work out the dosage. When I had the prescription made up, the pharmacist phoned the Dr and they recalculated - the new dose was 0.5ml three times a day. The syringe was the best way to give it to him, but I often didn't give it three times a day, as it seemed so strong. HE may be spitting it out if there's too much for him to cope with in one go.

May be worth returning to the Dr?

Hzve just looked in BNF and it states the dosage is 1mg per kg 3 times a day, up to a max of 3mg per kg 3 times a day. We've worked it out and he is on the maximum dose for his weight (think she based it on 5kg baby) so I think we might reduce it and see how we get on. Might check with the doc anyway. Yes, have decided syringe is best way of doing it, it just tastes so awful poor little mite.
