Sunscreen confusion

Hi,
I'm totally confused! I've always slapped on the factor 50 on my kids as soon as the sun comes out, but I've been told that this can inhibit the absorption on Vitamin D through the skin, leaving many children with vitamin D deficiency. Is this right? Should I hold off the sunscreen? I don't know what to do for the best!

It depends on what you want to do. I tend to not slap alot of sunscreen on ds, I make sure he wears a sun hat and isn't wearing a vest when we go out so is covered up, it helps to stay in the shade and stay indoors when it's the hottest, we don't use alot of sunscreen because of this. I will make him use it when he's at school though as children tend to forget about staying in the shade.
