I am quite new to mumsnet, I have just got back from a&e and dd (14mo) has been diagnosed with mumps she was supposed to have mmr on thusday but I cancelled it because she was already really poorly, I am really worried and have no experience of this illness and was wondering if anyone else does? TIA

the nhs website gives info about mumps. Hope your lo feels better soon.

Only my own and my sister's experience when we were little! We were both fine although we did look v swollen for a few days. Mum said after the first couple of days we were back to driving her crazy so hopefully your lo will bounce back quickly too. Mumps is usually v mild in childhood. It becomes more serious for boys in particular once they hit puberty. Try not to worry too much - easier said than done I know but when we were little everyone got mumps and it was just another childhood illness and that wasn't too long ago!

She will be fine, and back to her usual self in a few days. In itself mumps is not dangerous for young children, it is the teenage boys that are at the higher risk (it may cause infertility).

So don't worry too much, it will pass soon, but keep her in for a few days.

I had it when I was about 3 or 4 and so did my sister who was about 2. We were also absolutely fine. Swollen up for a few days- can vaguely remember it- otherwise fine.

Hopefully your wee one will recover very quickly.

Great news! At least she has lifelong immunity now too.
