Growing pains

My DS8 complains of pain in his knees. It happens occasionally and always at night time. He lies crying for a while before drifting off to sleep. Is there such a thing as growing pains or could it something else?

I used to complain about my knees aching at age 9 - 12...My mum always chalked it up to "growing pains". Saying that, as an adult I was diagnosed with lupus, so maybe what I was feeling was an early warning of that. My cousin developed juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at age 7. Whilst "growing pains" may be entirely possible, I have to say that if they're bothering your DS enough to cause tears, it's definitely worth checking things out with his gp. Good luck!

Thanks Rockinghertosleep, will take him to GP, it's definately worth being checked out. Last night he woke up a couple times crying out with pain, there was nothing we could do to ease it, just had to wait till pain stopped

I had growing pains in my knees. This has been replaced with osteo arthritis . I did ask a doctor about them, she told me they could exist when the ends of the bones are extending, but not normally. I'd go to the doctor if it is making him cry
