dd won't know or care as she's only turning 1, but ds is turning 3 and has been quite excited.

trouble is, last night after having a fantastic day helping with all preparations, he suddenly turned clingy and refused his dinner (he's normally a gannet). I weasled some into him [stupid rookie mama face] but it all came up again at around 11:30pm. Then he developed a temp (38.5) but has slept peacefully all night and late this morning without any paracetamol. (It's 7:30 here and he's still snoring, usually up by 6am.)

Party isn't til 3, mostly only adult family invited, only two other small dc's plus a few over 8yo's. Is ds likely to be contagious? (Dd has a snotty nose but otherwise rampaging round like darth vader.) Give guests the choice? See how ds is with some paracetamol?

And the pressing question for right now - do I go ahead with stupid rookie mass baking program?

give paracetamol and go ahead

I'd maybe go ahead but think that you should tell people and give them the choice. There is nothing worse than hearing someone say their dc were throwing up all night when they are happily sharing germs with your dc.

I've just missed a weekend away last month because of a puky ds after hearing those fateful words in a play area!

yes ftg I'd be mortified to do that esp. as the only place I can think he may have picked it up from is small boy he played briefly beside at park on friday.

otoh, only one puke - might be something he ate?
