Advice needed re 10yr old dd, a little bit TMI

my dd1 has just turned 10yo.

Today she has discovered quite a significant amount of discharge in her knickers. I'm a little bit concerned and am going to book an appt with the gp tomorrow, but wondered if anyone has any experience of similar?

My first thought is that it's preparation for her periods, but she seems so young

She has also been complaining of backache in her lower back this weekend (although she says it's ok now) and isn't very good at going to the toilet - she sometimes only goes once a day despite me nagging her to go, so I thought maybe it could be a water infection?

Anyway, I am booking her an appt to get her looked at/water checked, but thought I'd ask for experiences here first

I would say definitely periods starting. 10 is really not that young.

Sounds more like pre-period than water infection to me.

It was mucoussy (is that a word?!). Snot-like. No colour.

Yes, I know it's not that young, but she's only little and very slight (possibly a little underweight) and not developed.
She has the tiniest of buds as the start of breasts, but has no other signs of puberty (no greasy hair, or spots, or pubic hair).

All that said, that was my first instinct ...

Any ideas of timescales between discharge and periods starting?

IIRC, discharge can happen about 12 months before the periods start but it's different for every girl.

She is my firstborn, is it so obvious?

Thanks for your replies x
