Coughing then sick 10 months

DD, 10 months, has a chesty cough, twice in half a hour tonight she has coughed until she has been sick, exorcist style! She is already taking penicillin because she has an ear infection. Do I need to take her back because of her cough, or will the penicillin fight the cough too? She is very happy in herself and her temp has been normal since Sunday night. It was 40 due to her ear infection.

Disclaimer re not being a doctor as above....
However my DDs had coughs that caused them to be sick at this age. Also the phlegm they had at the back of their throats would tend to make them hurl too.Good luck with it.

DS2 (5) did this as a baby and recently had a chesty cough for ages which wasn't a chest infection (went to GPs). One night he coughed for ages and then did a spectacular puke and brought up loads of white gloop. Cough hugely better thereafter.

Apparently I did the same thing when I was a baby.

So, I guess what I'm saying is - I don't know but it's not been anything sinister in our house.

hiya,

Total over reaction by me, whoops! But doctor was very very nice!

DH suddenly remembered she hit her head half an hour before vomiting, she pulled herself up under the dining room table. By this time she had vomited 3 more times without coughing. We don't live in the UK and there is a 24 hour doctors in the village. We took her there and she sat and giggled on the doctors knee and loved all the waving at her to make her turn her head. Doctor also listened to her chest and says it fine.

So complete first time mum and dad overreaction! Thanks for your advice everyone. She came home from the doctors and went straight to sleep, even though all the holy week parades are going on right past our front door!
