Help - lump found on neck

I will take DS to Doctor in morning but I'm a bit of a worrier so was wandering if anyone has any idea's. DS is almost 6 months old and has been really grouchy today and has had a runny nose. I put it down to teething. Nowever, I've just fed him and have noticed a lump (just larger than a pea) under his ear. It looks a little red. Is this mumps and isn't that dangerous in little ones? Also, before getting him changed for bed I noticed a few red spots on his bum and put it down to a nappy type rash but I am just wandering if it could be chicken pox - would that also cause a lump in his neck?

Please stop me from worrying.

Bump will be a lymph node. Whether it's swollen or not-hard to tell, because they are much more easy to feel in babies, even when not inflamed. Both my kids had it and actually I went for a check up with DD a couple months ago and the paediatrician said it's normal.
Mumps- you usually can tell, because often the swelling is huge and they look a bit like hamsters-it's their salivary glands that swell, not the ones behind the ear.
Really, I wouldn't worry. I would wait to see if the rash spreads and then call a doctor.

Sounds like a lymph node, perfectly normal for them to get a bit bigger when they're fighting infection. My dd is 10 months and has had one behind her ear since she was born, my ds gets one in his neck that swells when he has cold/bugs. Get him checked and hopefully that will put your mind at rest.

My DS has quite a lot of these. Thy were worse at 6 months. They are lymph nodes and he has them because of his exzema - or that is what the consultant told me.
