chicken pox concerns

My DD went on a playdate last week and since then her friends brother has come down with chicken pox,

She has already had it but I am wondering of the likelihood of her having it again, she had it when she was 3 and she is now 6 and a half, I tried googling but there was a lot of conflicting advice on there and I just wondered what anyones experience on here was

Thanks in advance

She can catch chicken pox again but it depends on how badly she had it the first time. If it was mild then she probably didn't build up immunity against it so she could catch it again, just keep an eye out.

Once you have had cp you shouldn't get it again, you're immune, which is why often parents like to get it out of the way when children are young as it's a more serious illness as an adult.

Even if you've had it mildly it should offer a level of protection but yes there are always exceptions. Only about 4% of adults are not immune, even if they've never had cp, as they have been exposed to the virus and have built immunity, dh is a case in point.

That's not right Dinah, my older brother had it twice, he caught it when he was three and again when he was 15. The older the child, the worse it is apparantly, my brother was covered. I know other peoples children on here have caught it twice, a few have caught it three times. Look for the threads via search.

I hope she doesn't get it again

Its unlikely tbh, although I have heard of people getting t more than once. My 2 had pretty bad cases of it when they were babies and despite coming into contact with it numerous times since, havn't had it again.

Reappears as shingles for 1 in 10 but not possible to catch shingles from cp.

Immunity increases with age until adulthood.

Immunosuppressed are a different ball-game. True incidence of repeated cp infection often not virally documented so hard to ascertain figures. Some people just don't develop a high enough antibody response to be protective whilst others believe many of these double cases may stem from infections with a different virus that resembles chickenpox. Repeated incidences also run in family groups.

Have done quite a lot of reading on this for personal reasons, but broadly speaking for most cp confers lifelong immunity.
